The temple was built by King Mayura A.A. Made Karangasem circa 1744, when the Kingdom of Bali still ruled in Lombok island. This park area was originally called Kelepug Park. The name is taken from the sound "klepug ... klepug ... ", the sound of water flows from a spring that falls into the pool. The name was later changed when the Park was renovated by A.A. Ngurah Karangasem circa 1866.
