Mayura Temple Mataram Lombok

The temple was built by King Mayura A.A. Made Karangasem circa 1744, when the Kingdom of Bali still ruled in Lombok island. This park area was originally called Kelepug Park. The name is taken from the sound "klepug ... klepug ... ", the sound of water flows from a spring that falls into the pool. The name was later changed when the Park was renovated by A.A. Ngurah Karangasem circa 1866. Mayura name taken from Sanskrit which means "Peacock". At the time, there is still a lot of snakes floating around so very troubling the community who wanted to pray at the temple. Some advisors then suggested that raising peacocks, and kept them around the Park and Temple. The presence of peacocks was quite helpful in casting out snakes. So the community can pray quietly. Historical tourism in the Old Town of Ampenan
